Pattern Shop & Tool Room Manager – NPD

Salary Range: Up to ₹20 LPA CTC

Job Purpose
The Pattern Shop & Tool Room Manager – NPD will lead all Pattern Shop, Tool Room, and New Product Development activities related to casting products. The role is responsible for managing pattern and tooling development from concept to production, ensuring timely project execution, cost optimization, quality compliance, and continuous improvement of foundry tooling processes.
Key Responsibilities
Pattern Development & New Product Development (NPD)
Lead complete pattern, core box, and tooling development activities for new casting projects.
Review customer drawings, technical specifications, and product requirements.
Manage pattern design, development, validation, modifications, and production readiness.
Coordinate new product development activities from feasibility study to mass production.
Ensure successful launch of new products within targeted timelines and budgets.
Pattern Shop & Tool Room Management
Manage daily operations of the Pattern Shop and Tool Room.
Oversee manufacturing, maintenance, repair, and modification of patterns, core boxes, fixtures, gauges, and tooling.
Ensure availability and maintenance of tooling for uninterrupted production.
Optimize utilization of manpower, machinery, and resources.
Project Management
Prepare project schedules, development plans, and resource allocation.
Monitor project milestones and ensure timely completion of development activities.
Coordinate with customers, suppliers, pattern makers, and internal departments.
Track project costs and drive cost-effective tooling solutions.
Design & Process Engineering
Support CAD/CAM activities related to pattern and tooling design.
Work closely with Foundry, Production, Quality, and Machining teams to ensure manufacturability.
Drive process improvements for enhanced productivity, quality, and cycle-time reduction.
Participate in technical reviews and customer discussions.
Quality & Risk Management
Ensure tooling complies with customer requirements and foundry standards.
Lead tooling trials, validation activities, and process approvals.
Support APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, and quality assurance activities.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for tooling-related issues.
Vendor Development & Cost Optimization
Develop and manage external tooling and pattern suppliers.
Evaluate vendor capabilities, quality performance, delivery, and cost competitiveness.
Drive tooling cost reduction and value engineering initiatives.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain tooling drawings, revisions, maintenance records, and project documentation.
Ensure adherence to company quality systems and customer standards.
Provide regular project status updates and management reports.
Educational Qualification
Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Tool Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
Additional certifications in Tool Design, CAD/CAM, Foundry Technology, or Project Management will be preferred.
Experience
Minimum 8 years of experience in Pattern Shop, Tool Room, Foundry Engineering, or New Product Development.
Strong exposure to Sand Casting, SG Iron Castings, CI Castings, and Foundry Operations.
Experience in handling large-scale tooling development and NPD projects.
Exposure to DISA, ARPA, Lost Foam, Shell Moulding, and automated foundry processes will be highly preferred.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of Pattern Making, Core Boxes, Tooling Development, and Foundry Manufacturing Processes.
Expertise in Sand Casting and SG Iron Casting operations.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or equivalent CAD software.
Good understanding of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and Quality Systems.
Knowledge of CNC machining, tooling manufacturing, and maintenance practices.
Strong project management and cost estimation capabilities.
